Weather Synopsis for Friday & Saturday

Low pressure developing off of Vancouver Island has begun to spread light snow over the Olympics and north and central Washington Cascades this morning.  As the low drops south along the coast-line, so will the snow as it spreads to all areas. During the daylight hours the highest snowfall totals are expected over the Olympics closer to the low.

Tonight, light snow will increase as the low drops south along the coast for the south Washington Cascades and especially the Mt. Hood area. A serious upslope component to this pattern should begin to squeeze out light to moderate snow along the east slopes of the Cascades tonight and continue through much of Saturday. The Wentachee Mountains could see 1-2 feet of snow in this pattern. On the west side of the Cascades, very cold and drier air drawn out of the British Columbia interior will flood through the Fraser River Valley later tonight with gusty NE winds. This should help light snowfall taper down from north to south along the west slopes of the Cascades on Saturday.

Moderate easterly flow will develop at Pass level and at ridgetop level for the Washington Cascades Friday night through Saturday.  Expect cold temperatures (with single digits expected for the Olympics and north Cascades) and lots of blowing snow to impact just about all areas whether or not new snow is falling.
