Weather Synopsis for Friday & Tuesday

A north-south Pacific frontal system will slowly move inland today with the frontal boundary passing through the Cascades late this afternoon. The frontal boundary will eventually weaken and split as it passes inland as a new low pressure system develops along the southern boundary off the California coast later today and tonight.

Before it weakens, it will bring a generous shot of moisture to the Mt. Baker area and to a lesser extent the Paradise/Crystal/Chinook Pass region today with precipitation rates increasing through the early afternoon. Lighter amounts of precipitation will fall in the Cascade Passes, but the easterly flow has thrown us a curve-ball with precipitation types this morning at Snoqualmie Pass with a wet snow falling down to 3000 ft. Wet snow or even freezing rain, generally light, should continue at Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass through this morning with the snow level gradually rising as the cool easterly flow weakens in the afternoon.

Showers should quickly diminish overnight for all areas except for Mt. Baker, where more moderate rain and snow showers will linger for the first half of the night. The Pacific Northwest should be in a lull for much of Saturday with weather systems to our south and north, but not much happening in our region. There should be a fair amount of clouds leftover along the west slopes of the Cascades and Passes on Saturday with more sunshine than clouds for the Mt. Hood area, Olympics and the east slopes of the Cascades.
