Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Wednesday

Another quiet and mild day is in store for the Pacific Northwest. Upper level ridging located upstream will allow some high clouds to ride into the region in NW flow aloft, mainly affecting the north Cascades today where freezing levels will also be a notch cooler versus areas further south.

Strong temperature inversions can be seen this morning with many of our upper elevation sites significantly warmer than the low elevation sites where cold air has settled in place. Light low-level easterly flow will help keep the temperature inversions going all day in the Cascade Passes, but at least it looks mostly sunny albeit for periods of high clouds.

An approaching weather system will begin to lower the freezing level gradually on Thursday with again some high clouds to contend with for areas closer to the Canadian border. Other than that, another quiet day is expected on Thursday until a Pacific frontal system arrives late Thursday night and Friday.
