Weather Synopsis for Tuesday & Wednesday
The ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the weather with the ridge axis just offshore. A pool of cold air up to 5000-6000 feet sits east of the Cascade Crest and a moderate and gradually weakening easterly pressure gradient is pushing this cold air through the mountain gaps. This has set up a strong inversion at places like Washington Pass this morning. West of the Cascade Crest, temperatures are generally mild. Sunshine throughout the day will warm temperatures.
Tuesday night, a cutoff low well offshore heads ESE towards northern California with quiescent weather remaining over our region. The easterly gradient continues to weaken and associated easterly flow through the mountain gaps will become light. More fog is anticipated tonight and tomorrow morning with very little wind to mix the atmosphere.
On Wednesday, there is little change to the overall weather pattern in our region, but the ridge is gradually breaking down with moisture spilling over the top in central British Columbia and to the south as the cutoff low continues to head south. Expect generally mostly clear skies in the mountains, light alpine winds, and very light easterly flow.
