Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Thursday

An atmospheric river continues to take aim at southern B.C., the Olympics and the northwest Cascades with heavy rainfall, mild temperatures and gusty winds. Less precipitation along with mild temperatures and wind can be found south along the west slopes of the Cascades through late Monday afternoon.  Easterly flow through the Cascade Passes is causing multiple freezing levels and cold rain and/or freezing rain. Snowfall continues in the northeast Cascades, particularly Washington Pass where cold air remains entrenched.

The heaviest rain will continue for the same areas overnight. The moisture tap will begin to peter out as the frontal boundary associated with atmospheric river slides through the area Tuesday morning.  The Hwy 2 corridor east of Stevens should slowly warm Monday night, but Washington Pass and the Methow Valley will likely not mix down warmer air until Tuesday afternoon.  For everyone else,  high snow levels will begin to slowly lower in the afternoon.  Showers in SW post-frontal flow should decrease tomorrow, except in the Mt. Baker area where moderate precipitation is expected.

The decreasing shower trend will continue Tuesday night. A weak trough approaching the area on Wednesday should bring scattered showers to the region at relatively cooler snow levels.
