Weather Synopsis for Monday & Monday

A common spring-like weather pattern exists over the eastern north Pacific with several slow-moving low pressure circulations cut-off from the jetstream. A small-scale and weakening upper low is drifting S-SW off the coast of Oregon on Monday afternoon.

Partly to mostly cloudy skies are over the mountains of Washington Monday afternoon, with a very isolated chance of a shower. High overcast skies are also observed north of Stevens Pass.

The weak ridge will linger Monday night through Tuesday bringing continued fair weather with mostly clear skies. High clouds will begin increasing Tuesday afternoon as a frontal feature begins slowly approaching from the northwest through Tuesday night.

Freezing levels are typical for mid-March and show a strong diurnal signal.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Monday

A trough hugging the Alaska pan-handle will drop south on Wednesday with a leading cold front rotating counter-clockwise around Vancouver Island. The front will tap into moisture from another low spinning well off the California Coast. This will bring some light moisture into the Hood and South Cascades regions, likely beginning to arrive during the late morning hours and spreading throughout the forecast region and increasing as the cold front approaches our near-shore waters Wednesday night.

The north-south oriented cold front should arrive mid-day Thursday, bringing some light to moderate rain and snow. Shower activity will continue later Thursday into Thursday night, when some upper level enhancement may increase winds and shower activity late Thursday night into Friday.
